FAQ
How long is Writing?
Writing is 75 minutes.
What are the tasks in Writing?
1. forum post; 2. formal email
What score do you need to pass?
Each module is marked out of 100 and passes at 60. In this app you are marked ready when every module is at least 70.
How to prepare
The forum post is long enough that structure is visible: position, development, limit, closing sentence that does not merely repeat the first. The email is shorter and must sound like the relationship in the prompt: complaint, request, refusal, or arrangement.
Aim for precise verbs. haben and machen can carry a C1 text only if the nouns around them are exact, and even then a better verb is usually available: verschieben, belegen, widerlegen, ausreichen.
A worked example
Die verlängerten Öffnungszeiten helfen den Schichtarbeitern. Sie lösen das Personalproblem aber nicht, solange die Pausen unbezahlt bleiben.
Who is helped, what is not solved, under which condition. Three jobs in two sentences.
This is the difference the rubric is looking for between a long B1 text and a C1 text: a limit that follows from the claim.
What usually drops the point
- Anecdotes with no return to the question.
- Email openings that flatter and never state the request.
- Relative clauses you cannot close, so the main verb never arrives.
How to use the mock
Outline five lines, write, then cut the first sentence if it only announces the text. Read the email aloud once for du or Sie. One register break is enough to hurt the task score.
- Write the opening-hours paragraph about a service you use.
- Write 120 words refusing an invitation and proposing another week.
- Mark every weil, dass and obwohl and confirm the verb position before you submit the mock.
