FAQ
How long is Reading?
Reading is 65 minutes.
What are the tasks in Reading?
1. gap text; 2. sections and statements; 3. long article; 4. opinions
What score do you need to pass?
Each module is marked out of 100 and passes at 60. In this app you are marked ready when every module is at least 70.
How to prepare
The gap text asks you to supply a sentence or a phrase that fits grammar and argument. The long article asks for a detail you cannot guess from the title. Opinion matching asks you to separate people who share a worry but not a proposal.
Read one sentence past the gap before you choose. The following sentence often contains the pronoun or the connector your answer must set up.
A worked example
… , obwohl die Zahlen auf den ersten Blick eindeutig wirken.
A gap before this clause cannot be a simple “therefore” sentence. It has to be a claim the obwohl can limit.
Connector fit is the task. Topic fit is not enough.
What usually drops the point
- Choosing a gap option that repeats a noun from the previous sentence and breaks the case.
- Spending the long article on the first two paragraphs because they are easier.
- Matching two statements to the same person when each person is used once.
How to use the mock
Do the gap text while you are fresh, but cap it. If two options remain, mark the grammar (case, pronoun, connector) and move. Return only if time remains after the article.
- Take a course paragraph, delete one clause, and write two wrong options and one right one.
- Read a long text and write the question each paragraph answers.
- Do the C1 reading mock and label each miss as grammar or as argument.
