FAQ
How long is Listening?
Listening is 40 minutes.
What are the tasks in Listening?
1. short radio items; 2. interview; 3. lecture in sections; 4. discussion: who says what
What score do you need to pass?
Each module is marked out of 100 and passes at 60. In this app you are marked ready when every module is at least 70.
How to prepare
Short radio items, an interview, a lecture in sections, and a discussion. The lecture is split so you can reset, but each section still moves. Notes should be anchors: a name, a cause, a figure, a contrast.
Questions that paraphrase will not reuse the speaker’s adjective. Listen for the relation: cause, purpose, concession.
A worked example
Wir haben das Projekt nicht wegen der Kosten gestoppt, sondern weil die Daten lückenhaft waren.
The reason is the data, not the cost. An option that says “too expensive” repeats a word the speaker rejected.
nicht wegen … sondern weil is a classic distractor. The noun you heard first is the wrong one.
What usually drops the point
- Writing the first reason you hear and missing the correction.
- Treating every text as played twice. Check the table.
- Answering from general knowledge of the topic when you lost the thread.
How to use the mock
If you lose the lecture, start again at the next section instead of reconstructing the one you missed. One missed item is cheaper than three confused ones.
- Listen for nicht…sondern in a course clip and write only the second half.
- Take notes on a five-minute talk as single words, then answer three questions.
- Run the C1 listening mock and mark the first item where you wrote a rejected reason.
