FAQ

Reading is 65 minutes.

What are the tasks in Reading?

1. blog post; 2. press articles; 3. matching ads to situations; 4. opinions in comments; 5. rules and instructions

What score do you need to pass?

Each module is marked out of 100 and passes at 60. In this app you are marked ready when every module is at least 70.

How to prepare

B1 reading is long for one sitting: a blog, press articles, ads matched to situations, comment opinions, and a short rules text. The timer is shared. The press article is where candidates stall.

For comments, decide whose opinion matches the statement, not whether you agree. For rules, the modal verb is the fact: muss, darf, kann.

A worked example

Gäste dürfen die Küche nach 22 Uhr nicht benutzen.

“Guests can cook late” is not what the rule says. dürfen nicht is a ban.

B1 rule items test the modal, not the noun Küche. A glossary translation of the noun will not save the item.

What usually drops the point

How to use the mock

Do the ads and the rules first if you are slow at long texts. They are shorter. Then the blog. Leave the press text a block of minutes you decided in advance.

  1. Rewrite three house rules with müssen, dürfen and können.
  2. Read one course article and write the question it actually answers.
  3. Time one B1 reading mock and note which Teil you abandoned.
