FAQ

How long is Speaking?

Speaking is 15 minutes.

What are the tasks in Speaking?

1. exchanging information on cards; 2. talking about your life; 3. planning something together

What score do you need to pass?

You pass with 60 of 100. The written part needs at least 45. The oral part needs at least 15. In this app you are marked ready when every module is at least 70.

How to prepare

A2 speaking is with a partner. You exchange questions from cards, you talk about your own life from a prompt, and you plan something together. There is no long preparation time in this level’s shape.

A question has to be a question. “Hobby schwimmen” is not a turn the partner can answer. “Was machst du in deiner Freizeit?” is.

A worked example

Sollen wir am Samstag kochen oder in ein Café gehen? Ich hätte Zeit ab vier.

A plan needs a suggestion, a choice, and a time. Then you wait for the partner.

The planning task scores the exchange. A monologue that never asks anything leaves the interaction point behind.

What usually drops the point

How to use the mock

Prepare five questions you can ask any partner: where, when, how often, with whom, why. Use them on the card words. For the plan, learn six suggestion openings: Wollen wir, Sollen wir, Ich schlage vor, Hast du Lust, Geht es um, Mir wäre lieber.

  1. Ask four card questions and answer four, out loud.
  2. Talk about your work or study for one minute with three past or present verbs.
  3. Plan a birthday in German. Each person must ask one question.

How to spend the time

There is no preparation time. The card is the plan. Look at it, name the topic in one sentence, and ask your partner something they can answer. A monologue about your week misses the task when the card asks for a plan you make together. Day, place, and a question is one complete turn.

In the part about your life, answer and then return a question. Two sentences from you and silence from the partner is a thin conversation. In the planning part, react to what the partner said: accept it, or refuse it with a reason and offer another time. „Passt dir das?“ is more useful than another list of hobbies.

Practise with a timer set to a few minutes and a partner, or with the app’s examiner voice. Record it. The first thing to fix is the place you stopped making sentences and started listing nouns. A sentence the partner can answer is the whole point of this part.
