FAQ

How long is Reading?

Reading is 30 minutes.

What are the tasks in Reading?

1. newspaper article; 2. information boards and directories; 3. emails and letters; 4. matching ads to people

What score do you need to pass?

You pass with 60 of 100. The written part needs at least 45. The oral part needs at least 15. In this app you are marked ready when every module is at least 70.

How to prepare

A2 reading moves from signs to a short newspaper text, information boards, emails, and a matching task where several people need something and several ads offer it. One timer covers all of it.

On the matching task, cross out an ad as soon as it is used if the instructions say each ad once. Read the person’s constraint first: a day, a price, a child, a language.

A worked example

Yoga am Abend, 12 Euro, keine Vorkenntnisse.

Person: “I work until 18.00 and I am a beginner.” This ad fits. A morning course at the same price does not.

One shared word is not a match. The limit in the person’s sentence has to survive in the ad.

What usually drops the point

How to use the mock

Give the article a fixed number of minutes you choose before you start, then force yourself onto the boards and the ads. The ads are faster points if you compare constraints.

  1. Write four one-line ads and four people. Match them and say which word decided it.
  2. Read one course text and write a false sentence about it. Ask someone to catch it.
  3. Do the A2 reading mock and mark every item you answered from a single word.

How to spend the time

The article is the slowest part and it is not most of the points. Decide a share of the timer for it before you start, then leave it. The boards and the ads reward a comparison, which is faster if you read the constraint first. A person who works until 18.00 does not match a morning course, even when both say Yoga.

On the matching task, write the person’s limit in three or four words and cross out an ad once you have used it, if each ad is used once. Shared topic words are traps. The deciding word is the one that would make the person say no: the day, the price, the age, the language, the place.

For the article, read the question and then hunt the paragraph that can contain that kind of fact. A number lives in a sentence with a number. A reason lives next to weil or deshalb. You do not need a translation of the introduction. After the mock, mark every item you answered from the headline alone and redo those with the paragraph open.
