How to prepare
Lectures and discussions at this level bury the answer in a correction, a joke, or a reference back. Your note should capture the correction, because the first claim is often the distractor in the options.
If a speaker quotes someone else, the item may ask for the speaker’s view of that quote, not for the quote.
A worked example
Die oft zitierte Zahl stimmt. Die Schlussfolgerung, die man daraus zieht, stimmt nicht.
The figure is accepted. The conclusion is rejected. Options that attack the figure are aimed at the wrong half.
You have to store two attitudes toward one noun.
What usually drops the point
- Noting the quotation and missing the verb of judgement after it.
- Writing so much that you stop listening.
- Choosing the option that matches the interviewer’s question rather than the answer.
How to use the mock
Split the page into claim and judgement. When the speaker laughs or says genau das ist das Problem, the next clause is the one to write down.
- Listen to a talk and write only the sentences that begin a correction.
- Summarise one answer without using the interviewer’s words.
- Run the C2 listening mock and mark items where the first number you heard was wrong.
