FAQ

How long is Speaking?

Speaking is 15 minutes.

What are the tasks in Speaking?

1. introducing yourself; 2. asking and answering on topic cards; 3. making requests

What score do you need to pass?

You pass with 60 of 100. In this app you are marked ready when every module is at least 70.

How to prepare

A1 speaking is a short group exam. You introduce yourself, spell your name and say a number. You ask and answer from word cards. You make a request and react to one.

The examiner voice in the app reads the task. Answer aloud. A silent “I would say this” does not count, in the app or in the room.

A worked example

Ich heiße Lina Krüger. L-I-N-A, K-R-Ü-G-E-R. Meine Telefonnummer ist 0151 2345678.

Say the name as a sentence, then the letters, then the number as groups, not as one long string.

The first part is three separate points: introduction, spelling, number. A fluent paragraph that never spells the name misses a point.

How to use the mock

Learn the alphabet as sounds you can say in order. Then practise two-line dialogues: one question, one answer. Record them.

  1. Spell your surname once without looking.
  2. Turn these card words into questions: Hobby, Arbeit, Stadt.
  3. Make one polite request with a form of können and react to a partner’s request with ja or a reason.

How to spend the time

The first round is three small jobs, not a speech: who you are, the letters of your name, and the number you were given. Practise them as three beats. German letter names, not English ones. The number in groups, the way you would say a phone number to a friend. If you tell a story about your weekend and never spell the name, that job is still open.

The card round wants a full question and a full answer. Wohnort becomes „Wo wohnen Sie?“ or „Wo wohnst du?“, not the single word. Answer with a sentence that contains the fact. The request round wants a sentence with können or a polite question, and a reaction that is also a sentence: ja plus the thing you will do, or a short reason. A nod is not an answer the recording can score.

Record one run of all three rounds without stopping. Listen once and mark the first place you switched to English or went silent. That place is the next day’s practice. The app’s examiner voice will not wait while you compose a paragraph.
