German for Arabic speakers

Arabic speakers already handle gender, so the idea of masculine and feminine is not new. German adds a third class, neuter, and puts the mark on a separate word: der, die, das. Neuter is not “no gender”. das Buch still has an article, and the plural is still die Bücher.

Word order is the other early break. A German main clause keeps the conjugated verb in position 2 even when you start with time or place. Arabic does not force that. Use verb position and the sentence builder before you trust a translation of a whole paragraph.

German writing runs left to right. The Arabic homepage is set right to left so the explanation is comfortable. The German inside the lessons is not mirrored. Numbers in dates and prices stay in the German order you hear in the audio.

Sounds to isolate: ch, r, and the short rounded vowels. The course plays a full sentence, not a bare vowel chart. Repeat after the sentence you can read.

Questions

Is the Arabic site right to left inside the lessons?

The Arabic homepage is right to left. German sentences in the course stay left to right, including on that homepage’s examples.

Why do articles feel constant?

Arabic attaches the definite article differently and does not sort every noun into der, die and das. German wants the article every time you meet the noun.
